What P0300 means
A misfire is incomplete or absent combustion during a cylinder’s power event. P0300 is used when the control module recognizes a random or multiple-cylinder pattern instead of isolating the event to only one cylinder.
Before clearing codes, record all stored and pending codes, freeze-frame data, and—if the scan tool supports it—misfire counters. That snapshot can be more useful than the code alone.

Check companion codes, freeze-frame conditions, fuel trims, and cylinder misfire counts. A single-cylinder pattern or a load/temperature pattern changes the next test.
Inspect before disturbing anything
Look for disconnected hoses, damaged wiring, loose connectors, fluid intrusion, and signs of recent work. Do not erase evidence by moving parts prematurely.
Test the most supported system
Use appropriate ignition, injector, mixture, pressure, compression, leak-down, or timing checks based on the data. Follow the exact service procedure for the vehicle.
Verify the repair
Recreate the original operating conditions and confirm the misfire counts and symptoms no longer return.
Common mistakes
P0300 alone does not prove a coil failure. Parts-swapping can hide patterns, waste money, and introduce new faults. Use data and controlled tests.
