Informational purpose
IAR provides general automotive information. Vehicles differ by market, production date, engine, trim, software, prior repairs, and installed equipment. A page's verification badge, source record, and applicability notes are part of the guidance.
NHTSA vehicle identity data
IAR may display manufacturer-submitted vehicle identity attributes returned by NHTSA vPIC. A model listing or VIN decode is identification data, not proof of repair applicability, part fitment, open-recall eligibility, service specifications, or a manufacturer repair procedure. If decoded identity fields are saved to My Garage, their NHTSA provenance marker does not upgrade those fields into repair applicability data.
AI-generated diagnostic guidance
The IAR Diagnostic Assistant uses an external AI model to organize the information you provide into possible causes and diagnostic checks. Its output is generated guidance, not IAR-verified manufacturer service information, a confirmed diagnosis, or a guarantee that a suggested cause or test applies to your exact vehicle. When IAR shows source-backed records used to ground an answer, that grounding improves traceability but does not turn the model's synthesis into verified manufacturer service information.
AI guidance should be treated as a starting point for evidence gathering. Verify exact specifications, procedures, warnings, and vehicle applicability using authoritative service information for the exact configuration before acting on them.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for deciding whether you have the tools, training, workspace, vehicle-support equipment, and service information needed to perform a test or repair safely. Stop when a task exceeds those limits or when the vehicle may be unsafe to operate.
Safety-critical work
Airbags and SRS, high-voltage hybrid and EV systems, pressurized fuel and cooling systems, refrigerant service, ADAS calibration, structural repair, advanced programming, high-pressure fuel systems, internal engine work, and transmission repair may require qualified professionals, regulated equipment, or manufacturer procedures.
Specifications and procedures
Never apply a torque value, fluid capacity, pressure, tire pressure, wiring instruction, connector pinout, service interval, part number, recall or TSB claim, programming or relearn procedure, or exact repair step to a vehicle unless it is verified for that exact configuration. Manufacturer service information controls when it conflicts with general IAR or AI guidance.
Test before replacing
A symptom or trouble code can have multiple causes. IAR is designed to encourage observation and testing before parts replacement. A trouble code identifies a detected condition or circuit/system concern; it does not automatically prove that a named component has failed.
No automatic endorsement
External sources, AI-generated responses, and future community experiences are not automatically IAR-verified recommendations. Community and AI information must remain visibly separate from editorially verified content.
