Decode a VIN without storing the VIN
IAR sends the VIN only to its server-side NHTSA vPIC lookup. The VIN is not written to browser storage and is not included in Gemini diagnostic context. After decoding, you can optionally save bounded manufacturer-reported identity and populated configuration-context fields to My Garage.
A vPIC decode can identify manufacturer-submitted vehicle attributes. It does not prove a part fits, establish a repair procedure, confirm an open recall, or supply manufacturer service specifications.
NHTSA states that a blank decoded variable means it does not have data for that variable. IAR therefore leaves the field unknown instead of interpreting a blank as “not equipped.”
vPIC identifies vehicle attributes; it is not service information.
NHTSA says vPIC is populated from information submitted by motor-vehicle manufacturers. Exact repair procedures, fitment, calibration, service intervals, and open recall eligibility still require the appropriate authoritative source for the exact vehicle.
