Procedure and interpretation
Inspect before relying on the warning
With the tires cold, inspect tread, sidewalls, valve areas, wheels, and the spare when it is monitored; record visible damage, rapid loss, or unsafe handling.
Any stop-driving tire condition is identified before electronic diagnosis begins.
A TPMS communication test cannot make a damaged or underinflated tire safe, and a normal-looking lamp does not replace a physical inspection.
Measure every monitored tire cold
Use a known-good gauge and compare each reading with the vehicle placard or owner’s manual, not the maximum molded on the tire sidewall.
Each pressure is documented against the vehicle’s stated target and any leak pattern is preserved.
Correct pressure evidence separates a tire problem from a possible monitoring-system problem; it does not prove a sensor or module failed.
Classify the warning pattern
Record whether the lamp is steady, flashes before staying on, identifies a wheel, began after tire work, or changes after pressure correction.
The warning state and recent service history are available for the next branch.
Lamp behavior can distinguish a pressure warning from a system fault on some vehicles, but exact meaning remains vehicle-specific.
Read sensor and receiver evidence
Use a compatible tool and the exact module procedure to check recognized IDs, reported pressure/temperature, signal status, and fault codes without inventing a frequency or protocol.
The tool can establish which sensor data is present, missing, implausible, or not authorized for the application.
A missing ID or value narrows the communication path; it does not identify whether the sensor, valve, receiver, wiring, or configuration caused it.
Verify application and registration requirements
Confirm the replacement sensor’s application, protocol, frequency, programming state, and registration/relearn method from authoritative vehicle and tool information.
The procedure matches the exact vehicle, market, sensor, and equipment combination.
Physical fit or a generic drive cycle is not proof of compatibility or successful registration.
Verify monitoring after the supported correction
Repeat the original warning and service conditions, confirm all monitored positions report appropriately, and recheck tire pressure and visible condition.
The warning behavior and sensor data remain correct without compromising tire safety.
A lamp that turns off briefly or one recognized sensor is not enough if another position, leak, or system fault remains.
